Piller power protection chosen for AUDI AG multi-mega-watt Data Centre

Giant future technology campus data centre gets maximum UPS protection

InCampus GmbH, a Joint Venture of AUDI AG and the city Ingolstadt, has chosen Piller Power Systems UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) technology for a 10,000m² multi-mega-watt data centre being built at its giant future technology innovation park.

The Germany-based luxury and performance car maker and the city of Ingolstadt, will deploy 7.6MW of power supply protection for phase one of the data centre development.

Piller UNIBLOCK UPS will be used to protect power to the data centre in the IN-Campus, a new innovation hub set in a 75-hectare technology park in Ingolstadt, near Munich. The campus will be home to Audi’s future engineering and technology projects.

Data centre power will be protected using four Piller UNIBLOCK™ UBTD+ UPS systems. Each incorporates Piller’s patented POWERBRIDGE™ kinetic energy store – recognised as being among the cleanest and most sustainable power sources available.

As the data centre expands, Piller’s flexible UNIBLOCK deployment will scale to meet the planned power needs taking the total protected power level to 15.2MW.

InCampus GmbH chose Piller’s resilient UNIBLOCK™ UPS technology based on its industry-leading operating efficiency, low total cost of ownership, high reliability and small physical footprint.

Dieter Tolsdorf, Sales Director, Piller Germany, said:

”The Audi IN-Campus development is part of a visionary strategy of future projects for transportation in areas such as autonomous vehicles, electrification, AI and energy conservation. Piller is proud to have its UNIBLOCK UPS technology selected for the vital data centre power protection. Piller’s UPS protection leadership enables us to provide maximum UPS reliability for critical loads and maximum energy efficiency. Piller’s history is one of innovation and forward-thinking making AUDI AG’s highly impressive project a perfect fit.”

In co-operation with the city of Ingolstadt, 2015 saw AUDI AG begin work on its vision to create a spacious and attractive innovation park on the site of a disused oil refinery where high-tech and creativity will co-exist for future-oriented projects.
