Piller to unveil GPe, a new Airport Ground Power Unit concept at Inter Airport Europe 2021

Piller Power Systems, the global sustainable power technology infrastructure supplier, is to showcase a fundamental rethink of how airport ground power can be delivered using its GPe (Ground Power electric) concept.

Piller has developed GPe as a sustainable, efficient, electrically powered Ground Power Unit (GPU) design solution based on separate battery and power unit modules to replace diesel engine powered GPUs at airports.

“Piller’s Ground Power electric (GPe) concept is a fundamental rethinking of how power units will operate in the airports of the future. The concept is based around cutting out the things that are unwanted such as carbon, costs, noise and airside traffic while adding efficiency, operating hours availability and flexibility. The ideas behind GPe are as innovative as they are radical,” says Andrew Dyke, Managing Director, Piller Group.

Clean battery powered GPUs have many advantages over current diesel engine converters. Innovations such as GPU converter/ battery separation can provide huge benefits in recharging, operational efficiency, fewer units required and higher availability.

The benefits of GPe span operations, capex investment, environmental and future proofing.

Piller R&D sustainable solution concepts for airport ground power will be introduced at inter airport Europe 2021 where Piller engineers will be on hand to provide technical details behind GPe.
