Advanced features improve reliability by a factor of five compared with static UPS installations
Piller, the global power protection leader, announces availability of its UB-V series UPS which provides extended reliability in multi-megawatt data centre environments of cloud hyperscale, large colocation sites and enterprise deployments.
Single UB-V UPS units range from 1MW to 3.24MW and easily scale to tens of MW needed to meet the reliability, availability and continuous operations requirements of cloud services providers, wholesale and retail colocation firms and large enterprise users.
The UB-V series offers a unique service regime which means units can be condition-monitored remotely and can have off-line service intervals of up to five years.
Remote monitoring and management minimizes the need for human intervention in the data centre. The extended service intervals are made possible through the UB-V’s high reliability, typically improving reliability by five times compared with conventional static UPS which must use paralleling of multiple low power units in order to scale.
The UB-V single unit capacity starts at 1MW. Additional reliability is achieved by using fewer components. The UB-V UPS contains no power capacitors or electric fans. This pushes the mean-time between failures of a single unit up by factor of 5 times when compared to failure rates of a typical static UPS.
The UB-V is a flexible solution providing up to 3.24MW of UPS in a single module to give better availability through significantly extended preventative maintenance service intervals leading to fewer shutdowns.
The UB-V series unit’s power ratings range from 1100kVA 1.0MW to 3600kVA 3.24MW in both battery and kinetic energy storage versions, making them ideal for large scale deployment.”
“Reliability of power supply and conditioning has never been more important and as data centres expand in size and power capacity the effects of any outages can instantly impact hundreds of customers and millions of users. That’s why Piller spent over four years developing the UB-V UPS series for large scale data centre deployments. The reliability of the UB-V UPS series is unmatched in the industry.“
Piller is a global watch-word in power protection equipment for mission-critical power applications. Piller’s clients include many of the world’s leading banks and financial institutions, data centre operators, broadcasters, telecom operators and governmental entities. Founded in Hamburg, Germany, in 1909 by Anton Piller, in 1919 the company moved to its current headquarters and production site in Osterode-am-Harz, near Hanover. Today, Piller has a second production facility at nearby Bilshausen and serves its global markets via own sales and service subsidiaries throughout Europe, the USA, Australia, and Asia and elsewhere in the world via a network of distributor partners. In 2016 Piller acquired Active Power, the Austin Texas based flywheel UPS specialist. The Piller group employs around 1000 people worldwide. Piller is a subsidiary of the diverse, privately owned engineering and industrial group, Langley Holdings plc.
