A leading AI-focused Finnish data centre, is set to enhance its power infrastructure with a 65 MVA/MW battery-less uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system tailored for high-performance AI operations.
The project includes the delivery of 208 flywheel UPS units across six batches throughout 2025, with all systems scheduled for completion by year-end.
To meet this ambitious timeline, Piller and its subsidiary Active Power, have significantly ramped up production; manufacturing 10 flywheels per week, equating to 3.5 MW of UPS capacity every five days at peak output.
The data centre currently operates with a robust power infrastructure, featuring a 20 MVA diesel-backed UPS and a 15 MVA Active Power UPS.
The latest expansion ensures uninterrupted, high-efficiency power supply, supporting one of the most modern data centres globally.
With a remarkable power usage effectiveness (PUE) of 1.12, the facility is home to 16 of the world’s most powerful supercomputers.
Beyond performance, sustainability remains a core focus. The data centre contributes to environmental responsibility by supplying excess heat to the local district heating network, benefiting approximately 2,000 families.
This expansion underscores the data centre’s commitment to cutting-edge technology, energy efficiency, and sustainable operations, solidifying its role as a leader in the industry.
