Match funding takes Piller MDs’ charity bike ride fund-raiser to over €100k.
Managing Directors from Piller subsidiaries around the world marked the centenary of the company’s operations in Osterode, near Hannover, Germany, with a 100km charity cycle ride yesterday that raised over €100k.
Thanks to the collaborative efforts of the team’s supporters, €51,250 was raised which was then matched under the company’s match-funding policy to take the total to €102,500. All proceeds will be donated to The Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent charities.
In this special ride, dubbed ‘100 4 100’, the challenge was to cycle the Harz Mountains region of Northern Germany, where Piller has been based since 1919. The team completed a total distance of 102.51km in 5hr 10min, averaging 20km/hr.
There were several involuntary dismounts and a pedal failure along the way but otherwise the team remained relatively unscathed!
Andrew Dyke, Piller Global Managing Director, and team participant said:
“At the start of the year, we set ourselves an ambitious target of €100,000 for the chosen charities providing aid to world disasters; as a result, thanks to the company’s match-fund policy, we’ve not only reached the target, but exceeded it”.
Bernard Langley, director of parent company Langley Holdings, congratulated the team on their achievement. He said that not only did all the company’s MD’s participate and complete the challenge, but had raised a significant amount of money for their nominated charities.
Langley Holdings introduced its match funding policy to all its group companies in 2015. Under the policy, charitable donations and funds raised by employees (and their close families) for charity, are equally matched by the company they are employed by.
At the finish “We’ve done it!”.
