International event to be viewed by hundreds of millions of people in over 40 countries
Piller Italia has delivered its UNIBLOCK® UPS rated at 625kVA/500kW to support audio, video, lighting, and transmission equipment with clean conditioned power as well as adding an extra layer of power backup for an international event broadcasting live this week, across 3 nights.
Working with partner Aggreko the Piller UPS was deployed at a site where power generation is composed of 6x600KVA genset units supplying the UPS which provides the required frequency and voltage power quality to the vital production and broadcast equipment.
The UPS is backed by 500kW of battery back up to provide an additional 10 minutes of reserved power on top of the existing back up in the case of a power loss emergency.
With every Piller system thoroughly inspected prior to dispatch, preparation of the UPS was done by experts in Germany and transported to the venue in Italy in April 2022, six weeks prior to the live event. Piller field service engineers commissioned the unit, and the UPS has been in operation mode for over one month.
Piller’s containerised UPS rental services include transportation, offloading, installation, and the connection. The power draw for the stage lighting and transmission equipment for the production is in excess of 1.5MW.
The event will attract an expected international TV audience of over 200m people in more than 40 countries and the host must guarantee a 4K broadcast signal to multiple stakeholders including national broadcast partners across Europe and as far away as Australia.
The need for stable, reliable power in the broadcasting sector has never been greater. Some of the world’s largest broadcasters have chosen Piller technology for round-the-clock protection.
